Sammy Winslow is a retired quarterback turned coach of the Los Angeles Thunderbirds. He was both Shawn and Gus's childhood hero. In a flashback at a football game, we see a young Shawn tell him how he messed up the game. Henry apologizes, but instead Sammy throws Shawn the game ball and smiles at him.
In the present, Shawn and Gus are investigating the disappearance of kicker Vlad Alexavic at the Thunderdome. When they see Sammy, they freeze up and refuse to speak. Later, they enter his office, where Shawn demonstrates his "psychic" gift to Sammy, and tells him that he was the kid who he threw the game ball to all those years ago. Sammy is impressed by Shawn's skills, remember's him, and let's Shawn and Gus go undercover as a kicker and an assistant.
When the case is solved, Sammy lets Shawn lead the team out of the tunnel for the next game, thereby fulfilling a dream.
