Lance Rothstein is the head writer on Explosión Gigantesca de Romance, Santa Barbara's best-loved Spanish soap opera. Shawn and Gus meet Lance on the set of this show, while investigating a murder. When signs point to him being the murderer, he is arrested and put prison, but not before he gives Shawn a major role on the show. He then proceeds to write new episode scripts while in prison, so that Shawn and Gus can lure out the true killer, as they believe Lance is innocent. While doing a live show, Shawn realizes who the killer is, and wraps up the case on live television, which in turn ruins the production, much to Lance's dismay. He is released from prison immediately.

- Lance himself, apparently, doesn't really speak Spanish. He simply renders his plot in some hodge-podge of metaphors and languages, and leaves the editing staff and actors to decipher the results.
