Curt Smith (b. June 24, 1961) is a British singer-songwriter, known primarily for his work in the band Tears for Fears. He is one of Shawn's personal heroes.

Shawn 2.0[]

In "Shawn 2.0", Shawn and Gus go to confront Declan Rand when they discover that he doesn't have the degrees he claims to have. Upon reaching his address, they discover he lives in a mansion and is filthy rich. When they go to his pool they see Curt Smith, who stayed there after a party at Declan's a few nights before. He is giving a private performance and tries to perform a variety of songs, but Declan demands he only play "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". Shawn repeatedly tells Smith that he loves him, which weirds Smith out. Smith later plays at Shawn's and Gus' friend's wedding, where he gets drunk.

100 Clues[]

In "100 Clues", Curt Smith is hired as entertainment at a party for Billy Lipps. As he's coming to the door, Smith sees Lipps's butler, Clizby, hiding a murder weapon, and is promptly shot in the stomach. He is then attacked by Lipps' pet panther, Emma. Once he makes it inside, he sings a track off his new CD before almost identifying his shooter, but passes out before he can get the words out. After Clizby is found to be the murderer, Smith is taken out on a stretcher and is once again attacked by Emma, but he miraculously survives.

A Nightmare on State Street[]

He has a cameo in "A Nightmare on State Street". He shows up at the Campbell River Store and starts talking to Gus, who is seated in his mother's car, about his nightmares. However, then it turns out Gus is having a nightmare right at that moment and a zombie horde show up that bite Curt and make him one of their own. Zombie Curt then climbs on the hood of the car and yells "Shout! Shout! Let your brains out!" (parodying the Tears for Fears hit Shout) at Gus before bashing on the windshield and almost breaking in before Gus finally wakes up.

Psych 3: This Is Gus[]

Gus books Curt for his wedding on the way to Whitney's. He had been badgering Curt for a while, which is why Curt's phone warns him whenever Gus calls. Curt tells Gus that he's "acting like a bit of a groomzilla" and mentions the 11 missed calls the previous night as well as Gus's attempt to access his doorbell camera. He says that he cannot commit to play Gus's wedding right now because Wham!'s Andrew Ridgeley might ask him to join his new band Wam. However, he finally takes Gus up on his offer when he is promised 35 extra dollars, mostly because his Manchester United bets haven't been working out lately.

When the gang are at the brewery works and Selene suddenly starts going into labor, Gus insists they be married before she gives birth and connects to Curt via Zoom. Since he doesn't know Corinthians 13, he offers to play a song called Previous Holiday from his new project. Shawn assumes this means Andrew picked Curt for Wam, but Curt laments he lost his spot to Jerome Benton from The Time. His new project is his own Wham! called "Wom" and he invites the whole gang to be in the Previous Holiday music video. In the end Curt plays nothing because the baby isn't waiting, and he passes out when he tries to join everyone else in their chorus of "Push!"

Trivia[]

  • The "UL" in Curt's new band Wom UL is a reference to the fact Wham! was briefly known as Wham! U.K. in the United States. It doesn't actually mean anything, as all Curt did was move the "K" one letter further down to arrive at "L".
